From an ecological point of view and with regards to building biology the renovation of an office building should make particular use of the historic building materials clay and reed. After gutting the building an inside insulation with reed panels was installed in order to preserve the façade of the timbered house. All non-bearing interior walls were built using Hiss Reet walls. After the installation of the wall heating the complete interior of the old building has been plastered with clay.
The Hiss Reet wall units can be fitted following these six steps:
1. Prepare tools and materials
2. Fit substructure
3. Fix the wall connections
4. Place the first wall unit.
5. Place the next wall unit.
6. Place the last wall unit.

For this reason the elements of 2.5m height were divided into smaller parts. The production of cross joints should be avoided.
As a protection against rising damp a bitumen sheeting has been laid out under the lower lathing. On top a cork impact sound insulation has been installed.

Later, a 3 mm layer of final loam rendering is applied.
With 62.5 cm the climate panels have the same width as the Hiss Reet wall elements. Thus, they are easy to screw to the timber studs.
This clay wall heating module is perfectly suited for ecological dry wall constructions. The advantage of a wall heating system is, that it provides an evenly distributed heat radiation. In contrast to a floor heating, which mainly radiates heat to the feet, the wall heating warms the entire human body. Furthermore, the human body is more sensitive to radiant heat.
When using a wall heating you can reduce the room temperature by app. 3°C without experiencing a loss in comfort. This saves heating costs as well as energy for the sake of the environment. A further advantage of a wall heating is, that the air is almost heated without turbulence, which means that the amount of particles floating in the air as for example fine dust, house dust, pollen, mites etc. can be reduced.
